Why Do Traffic Numbers Continue Changing After a Test Is Paused?

When a test is paused in Visiopt, the system immediately stops assigning new visitors to the test variations. However, you may still notice that traffic numbers continue to change slightly after the test is paused.

This behavior is expected and happens for a few normal reasons.

1. Returning Visitors May Still Load the Test Page

If someone visited the page before the test was paused, their browser may still contain the variation they were originally assigned.

When that visitor returns to the page using the same browser and device, they may still load the same variation.

If this happens, the system may record an additional visit.

2. Browser Caching Can Load Previously Stored Pages

In some cases, a visitor’s browser may load a cached version of the page that was stored earlier.

If the cached version contains a test variation that was previously assigned, the visit may still be recorded even though the test is paused.

This does not mean the system is sending new traffic into the test.

3. Page Refreshes and Repeat Visits

Visiopt records visits, not only unique users.

This means if a user:

• Refreshes the page
• Leaves and returns later
• Visits the page multiple times

Each visit may still be recorded in the reporting.

Because of this, traffic numbers may increase slightly after a test has been paused.

What to Expect After Pausing a Test

Once a test is paused:

• No new visitors are assigned to the test variations
• Existing visitors may still return to the page
• A small number of additional visits may appear in reporting

This behavior is normal and ensures the reporting remains accurate.
