This is a very specific case; if it happens, it means a cache mechanism is enabled in the WP site, and because the device preview does not update to the selected versions of the variable.
A fix is to enable the site in Visiopt as a Frontend network site.
Settings > manage your domains > edit
Then in the test editor, click on the gear icon > Clear Cache
