Why You’d Want to Do This
In some cases, you may want specific ads to always send traffic to a specific test variation instead of letting traffic rotate naturally.
Common reasons include:
- You’re running different ad messages that align with different page versions
- Each variation is tied to a different optimization goal in the ad platform
- You want full control over which experience an ad delivers
- You’re validating a hypothesis before rolling traffic evenly
Regardless of the reason, Visiopt makes this easy and fully trackable.
How It Works
Visiopt allows you to force traffic to a specific test variation by adding a simple parameter to the end of the URL.This ensures that anyone clicking that link will always see the same variation.
How to Force a Variation:
To force visitors to load a specific variation, add the following parameter to the URL:
?_vt_vart=#
Replace # with the variation number you want to send traffic to.
Examples:
Control (Variation 1):
?_vt_vart=1
Variation 4 would be:
?_vt_vart=4
Variation 11 would be:
?_vt_vart=11
Example full URL:
https://testpage.com?_vt_vart=2
Anyone visiting this URL will always see Variation 2.
Important Notes:
The number at the end of the parameter must match the variation number inside the test
Best Practice:
Use forced variations only when you need control at the ad or traffic-source level. For learning and discovery, allow Visiopt to rotate traffic normally.
