Why Am I Seeing Duplicate Conversions?
Do you have more conversions than you think you should, further down the funnel? If you notice duplicate conversions in your test data, it’s important to understand why this happens.
Visiopt uses VisiSmart Pixel-based tracking, which captures user activity in real time. Below are the most common reasons duplicate conversions may appear in your reports:
Common Causes of Duplicate Conversions
- Page Refresh or Reload:
If a user refreshes the conversion page (e.g., order confirmation, success page), the pixel will fire again, recording an additional conversion.
- Users Saving and Revisiting the Page:
Some users bookmark or save the success page and return to it later, either on the same device or a different one. This can trigger an additional conversion.
- Cross-Device Activity:
If a user completes a conversion on one device and later revisits the same confirmation page on a different device or IP address, a new conversion may be recorded.
How to Manage and Prevent Duplicate Conversions
Depending on your preference, there are several ways to handle this behavior:
Option 1: Ignore It
If the number of duplicate conversions is low, you may not need to take action.
These occasional extra conversions should not significantly impact your test results.
Option 2: Enable "Unique Conversions Only"
You can configure your conversion tracking to count only unique conversions per user session.
Important: This setting is not retroactive, meaning it will only apply to conversions recorded after enabling it.
You can enable this option in the Funnels page, in the drop-down below the page thumbnails:
Option 3: Use Server-to-Server Webhooks
Visiopt enables you to set up and use server-to-server conversions very quickly and easily.
Final Thoughts
Duplicate conversions are a natural part of user behavior and typically do not impact test results significantly. However, if needed, Visiopt provides multiple solutions to manage and refine your tracking. Choose the method that best fits your testing needs!

On some occasions, you might see fewer conversions on the conversion page in your funnel than on the conversion page that comes before it in the funnel.
For example: if you have an LP > Conversion page 1 > Conversion page 2
you might see more conversions on Conversion page 2 than on Conversion page 1.
This can happen with VisiSmart Pixel-based tracking in this test.
There are a couple of reasons this can occur:
[1] Most likely one of your customers just refershed the page creating an additional pixel-based conversion.
[2] Customers can save the success page and revisit it later or even from a different device later.
This is pretty common user behavior. We see it all the time.
Options.
[1] You can ignore it as the few conversions that do this should not affect your overall test negatively.
[2] You can set your conversion pages to "Unique Conversion only". This will ensure that each conversion is unique. Keep in mind this is NOT retroactive and will only work moving forward.
[Imre insert instructions for this]
Note this will not stop conversions if they save the page and revisit from a completely different device and different IP.
[3] Depending on the systems you are using you can set up webhooks for server to server conversions although in this case it does not seem necessary
